Product description

  • In general, duplex stainless steel offers good weldability. Good welded joints are possible depending on the right choice of filler metal and good control of the thermal cycle (rate of cooling).
  • Poorer formability
  • A transition from tough to brittle fracture behaviour at low temperatures
  • Magnetic behaviour due to the percentage of ferrite in the microstructure
  • Greater resistance to stress corrosion cracking, also due to the percentage of ferrite in the microstructure
  • A significantly higher yield strength (more than double that of a standard grade such as 1.4404)
  • A lower coefficient of expansion

Product description

Duplex stainless steel. Within the duplex stainless steel group, 1.4462 is the most commonly used grade. In addition to its high strength in comparison to most duplex grades, this grade also offers superior resistance to localised corrosion such as pitting in comparison to 1.4404 and 1.4362. This property is attributable to the high percentages of chromium and molybdenum on the one hand, and to the presence of nitrogen on the other hand. The 1.4462 grade is used in the chemical, petrochemical and offshore sectors and is available in the form of sheet, bar and tube.

  • In general, duplex stainless steel offers good weldability. Good welded joints are possible depending on the right choice of filler metal and good control of the thermal cycle (rate of cooling).
