  • Greater strength than 316L, resulting in lighter construction
  • In general, duplex stainless steel offers good weldability. Good welded joints are possible depending on the right choice of filler metal and good control of the thermal cycle (rate of cooling)
  • Duplex alternative for 316L
  • Poorer formability
  • A transition from tough to brittle fracture behaviour at low temperatures
  • Magnetic behaviour due to the percentage of ferrite in the microstructure
  • Greater resistance to stress corrosion cracking, also due to the percentage of ferrite in the microstructure

Product description

Duplex stainless steel. Compared to the 1.4162 grade, this grade is characterised by a higher percentage of chromium. As a result, this grade offers higher resistance to (pitting) corrosion than 1.4162. 1.4362 contains less nickel than 1.4404 and no molybdenum, which makes it a relatively cost-effective alternative for 1.4404 without sacrificing corrosion resistance. The higher strength allows a reduction in thickness and reduced weight, which can lead to a further saving. The 1.4362 grade is suitable for all applications where 1.4404 is used. Furthermore, we find this grade in the chemical industry, the food industry, in paper manufacturing, etc. The 1.4362 grade is mainly available in sheet, however a range of bar and tube stock is also available.
